When Your Vision is Clouded, You Don't See So Good!

When Your Vision is Clouded,
You Don’t See So Good!

I have Glaucoma. In a few weeks I am going to have surgery. The surgeon will remove what is called a ‘pocket’ on the macular of my right eye. This ‘pocket’ is a film-like covering over the center of the eye and that ‘pocket’ is seriously clouding my vision. In fact, he has informed me that should I choose to not have the surgery, I will eventually lose the vision in that eye.

I haven’t checked it out but I believe that if I do lose my vision, the State of California will not allow me to drive my car. I would lose my license! A friend who has lost his vision in one eye no longer drives, so I am pretty sure the same thing would happen to me. My life would be more than seriously hampered!

I have been reading and thinking a lot about what has been happening in Washington, DC recently. Could it be that several people there have clouded vision? Perhaps there is a ‘film-like’ covering, not so much over their eyes, but over the center of their collective minds? I find it hard to believe they have forgotten the lessons of history…..the heritage of this great Nation. It is incomprehensible that all of them would not understand what has made this country great and it’s people the most blessed on Planet Earth! Did they choose not to study history but rather took basket weaving classes instead? We are talking about some high IQ folks here, right? What has happened?

In any case, emergency surgery is required! We must remove the ‘film-like’ covering, regardless where we find it. Period! It must be done to save the patient: our culture, our businesses, our families, our way of life.

Who is qualified to do the surgery? You and I, the American people who love this Nation must turn to Someone Who is qualified by knowledge and experience (just like my ophthalmologist). That Person is none other than God Almighty, the Great Physician!

How do we contact Him? Simple. We do it in His holiness and through faith by His grace using specific and fervent prayer in the power of the Holy Spirit in accordance with the revealed Word of God, that’s how. Basically, we ask Him to work in this situation to bring about His purposes for this Nation during this period of history.

We know, do we not, that the Lord Jesus Christ demands righteousness and personal purity of His people. He deeply longs for an intimate relationship with each and every one of us…..whether we are believers right now or not. He has already invited you and I to become a part of His family. Perhaps we have not already made that transition but the invitation still stands. He wants, more than anything else, that we surrender to Him on His terms so that He may share His eternal life with us. Salvation is His heart-cry!

He is not only aware of what is going on with you and me individually as far as life right now and what our destiny will be after this life, but He is very concerned about the state of our Nation. It is only through the blessing of God that this Nation even came into being and still exists today. Though we have wandered from His path, our foundation was built upon Scriptural principles and truth. We need to return to the ‘old paths’.

My surgeon told me last week when I asked him what is the prognosis of my treatment. He said that if all goes well, my vision will return and be vastly improved! Could it be that this great Nation could return as well? Undeniably, YES!

2 Chronicles chapter 7 verses 11 through 14 read this way:

“Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD and the king’s palace, and successfully completed all that he had planned on doing in the house of the LORD and in his palace. Then the LORD appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, and My people who are called by My Name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked deeds, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (New American Standard Bible)

Faith, repentance, surrender, and prayer: these are the keys to a life of significance of individuals (and great nations!) which make for a high impact for goodness on this Planet.

Happy Birthday America!

I just hang Old Glory from the front wall of our house. Happy birthday America!

So, what do we do now? BBQ some burgers and dogs, have some ice tea or lemonade, maybe some ice cream with the cake or cookies? Go to the beach at the ocean or to the nearest lake? Maybe we should light up the fire pit later tonight and have some marshmallows?   Oh yeah…… go to a baseball game or perhaps watch it on TV… I almost forgot. We can’t forget the apple pie though; remember, apple pie and ice cream and baseball. That’s as American as we can get, right?

What else? Oh jeez! How terrible of me—I forgot the parade tomorrow, all the flags, the high school bands, dancing people, hizzonor the mayor in the flashy bright red convertible, patriotic speeches and getting sunburns etc., etc. Can you think of anything else?

May I suggest some things? Thank you!

  • Remembering: our history, our Founding Fathers, their principles of life and living. Their willingness to give their all so our Nation would be born and thrive. Their pursuit of and living out true truth, honor, and integrity.
  • Being Thankful: having an attitude of gratitude for the multitude of unearned blessings we have received as individuals and as a people. Just plain being and acting humble for a change, instead of strutting around like a proud rooster in a chicken pen on the family farm. After all, most the ‘bounty’ which we possess was won and handed down to the majority of us by our ancestors, right? And, none of us are ‘self-made’ men and women.  In spite of what we might hear from some quarters!
  • Being Good: here are some critical words and concepts which should be considered as part of our ‘must have and put into practice list’.

Believe, Trust, Trustworthy, Commitment, Surrender,

Honor, Love, Discernment, Understanding, Wisdom,

Kindness, Honesty, Peace, Patience, Goodness, Gentleness, Self-control, Joy

Every one of us believes something; There isn’t any one who honestly believes nothing. What we believe and act upon certainly deeply affects the outcome of our lives. How we believe and live also very much affects those around us. What is the best way to live a satisfactory and deeply significant life?

My wife and I are deeply committed Christians. We are active members of a congregation which believes and is committed to being all that Almighty God and His Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ wants us to be and we desire to share His blessings. Recently our leadership announced that we, as a congregation will pursue God with all our hearts. Together, we will build community with passion and gusto. We will also unleash compassion with unswerving enthusiasm and joy…….all, one neighborhood at a time! We, as a congregation are united in this.

We aim to go deep in the Spiritual truth which is in Christ Jesus and Scripture. We intend, with His help to live out that truth every moment of every day. We also aim to reach out, beyond the walls of the Sanctuary and touch lives in our towns and cities, introducing those folks we run into to Jesus. We aim as well to touch those who are widows, orphans, and the disenfranchised. The lonely, the hurting, and those with hang-ups and extend God’s love, mercy, and grace.

America! Wasn’t this what it was like in the beginning of this great Nation? Ordinary people, like you and I reached out to God in Jesus Christ our Lord. They reached out as well to their neighbors, far and near. They cared. They shared. They prayed. For one another and for our Nation!

Can we do anything less?

Happy Birthday America!
